Job summary

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks a part-time Safety Officer to safeguard students and staff across HCZ buildings. The role reports to the Safety Department and requires NYS security licensing and 8/16 hour certificates.

Qualifications

• Must have related experience with vigilance and awareness.
• Situational awareness to respond to threats.
• Health level suitable for security duties.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work morning, evening and/or night shifts.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Operate with integrity and honesty.
• Must be a team-player.
• Must be agile and adaptable.
• Rotate between HCZ sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety and welfare for students and staff at HCZ buildings.
• Conduct risk assessments and identify dangerous situations.
• Monitor student activity and intervene to prevent dangerous behavior.
• Patrol premises, monitor surveillance, inspect buildings, guard entry points.
• Maintain order and code of conduct compliance.
• Enforce policies and regulations, including no seated socializing.
• Respond promptly to security signals and incidents.
• Maintain incident records and write descriptive reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

New York State Security license

Security certificates (8 & 16 hour)
