Job summary

Alamance-Burlington Schools Child Nutrition is seeking a School Nutrition Assistant for Haw River Elementary in Burlington, NC. This 20–21 hour weekly role supports breakfast and lunch service with customer-focused duties in a school cafeteria.

The position requires basic English literacy, math for cash handling, and a valid NC driver’s license. A food handler certification is preferred, with opportunities to participate in ongoing USDA training and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Read and speak/understand English; count currency and make change at the register.
• Valid food handler’s certification or card as required by state and USDA; continued education as required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by NC DMV.

Responsibilities

• Practice personal hygiene and sanitation procedures.
• Turn on, test, and monitor equipment at the start of the day.
• Prepare food according to written and oral instructions; serve meals and select items.
• Handle cashiering responsibilities including food and ticket sales.
• Receive, stock and rotate inventory; maintain a neat, clean and safe work area.
