Job summary

Haywood County Schools Waynesville Middle in Waynesville, North Carolina is seeking a part-time School Nutrition Assistant for 5.5 hours per day. The role supports the School Nutrition Manager with meal preparation, serving, and related records, including NSLP compliance and daily cashier duties.

The successful candidate will assist in food preparation, inventory, and maintaining a clean, safe cafeteria environment, following health and safety standards and USDA requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–2 years of institutional food prep experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing kitchen operations to ensure nutritious meals.
• Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to standardized recipes.
• Maintain NSLP compliance and accurate records at point of sale.
• Assist with ordering, inventory, and payroll documentation.
• Ensure food safety, sanitation, and HACCP practices are followed.
• May function as cook, cashier, server, or helper during service.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

1-2 years of experience in the preparation of foods in an institutional setting or childcare
