Job summary

OPRF – Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 is seeking a Part-Time Food Service Worker to support the school cafeteria operations. The role focuses on customer service, food preparation, cashiering, and maintaining a clean, safe service area, 10:00am–1:30pm, Monday through Friday.

The position offers non-exempt status with a wage of $18.64 per hour. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent; POS experience and food-safety knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior food service, cashier, or customer service experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to operate or learn a computerized POS system.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Operate the POS system and accurately process student and staff meal purchases.
• Provide friendly, courteous, and efficient customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Set up serving lines and food stations prior to meal service, ensuring food is properly displayed and stocked.
• Break down serving stations after meal periods, including storing food properly and cleaning equipment.
• Restock food, beverages, utensils, condiments, and supplies throughout meal service.
• Assist with food preparation, portioning, and packaging as assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving areas, dining areas, and food service equipment.
• Wash dishes, trays, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.
• Follow all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Handle food according to established health and safety guidelines.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and supplies.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or inventory shortages to the Food Service Manager.
• Work collaboratively with food service staff to ensure efficient meal service.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services.
