The position is part-time with hours during regular school days: 8:30am–9:30am and 3:00pm–4:00pm, plus early-release variations. Compensation is $23 per hour, with duties supervised by the Traffic Safety Sergeant and adherence to town bylaws.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and motorists.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must successfully complete required background checks.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• 1. Direct traffic at crossings to protect school children and ensure orderly movement of traffic.
• 2. Ensure children use proper crossing locations and that streets are clear while traffic is moving.
• 3. Prioritize protection of children going to and from school; no other duties interfere.
• 4. Submit reports of traffic violations and hazards to Commanding Officer.
• 5. Wear safety equipment; gloves or mittens and reflective outer garment when on duty.
• 6. Wear uniforms and equipment as prescribed; uniforms provided and remain property of Town of Cohasset; report for each tour and do not leave post until children are safe.
• 7. Do not touch students except in emergencies.
• 8. Provide comparable care for students of all grades; stretch duties to all elementary levels.
• 9. Transmit complaints in writing to Commanding Officer.
• 10. Report violations to school principal and Commanding Officer.
• 11. Perform other duties as assigned by Commanding Officer or Chief of Police.
