Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a part-time School Crossing Guard to help ensure safe student movement at designated crossings. The role includes standing in a highly visible location, signaling and stopping traffic as needed, and wearing the required uniform outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work is approximately ten hours per week, split between morning and afternoon shifts, with occasional substitutions at different locations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be eighteen (18) years or older.
• Must complete a (3) hour School Guard Safety Training annually.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all laws, policies, and procedures.
• Direct the safe movement of students and pedestrians crossing roadways and intersections.
• Attend to designated street crossings, standing in a visible location.
• Monitor traffic flow, stop traffic safely when needed.
• Place and remove caution signs and cones.
• Caution drivers using whistles, signs, or signals.
• Notify CMS Safety & Risk Management of hazards.
• Keep crosswalks clear of debris to prevent injuries.
• Maintain assigned equipment (stop sign, vest).
• Count children crossing the street during shifts.
• Perform related work as assigned.
