Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Part-time Food Service Specialist to support our campus operations in Houston, TX. The role assists in food preparation, safety, and service for students, while handling POS transactions and maintaining clean, organized kitchen spaces.

The position prioritizes teamwork with cafeteria staff, adherence to recipes and schedules, and daily interaction with students and families. A 1+ year footprint in food service and a manager food safety certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1+ years in a role requiring standing for long periods.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds solo, up to 50 pounds with a partner.
• Must obtain a locally-recognized manager food safety certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in food preparation, food safety and quality assurance for the students.
• Provide customer service and interact with staff, students and family daily.
• Operate food service equipment and maintain food service spaces; notify manager of equipment malfunctions.
• Assist in cafeteria cleaning duties: sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, disposing of trash, moving cafeteria tables and mobile work stations.
• Load and unload weekly of food and non-food products.
• Encourage students to participate in our meal program and ensure counts of student meals are accurate.
• Follow recipes and established processes; discuss with Cafeteria Manager when procedures cannot be followed.
