Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and production of meals following USDA meal pattern requirements and standardized recipes.
• Support scratch cooking and fresh food preparation as directed.
• Measure, portion, and assemble food items for breakfast, lunch, and special meal services.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly after appropriate training.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP procedures.
• Set up serving lines, grab-and-go areas, and service stations.
• Serve meals to students in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
• Ensure required meal components and correct portion sizes are offered.
• Assist with accommodating special dietary needs as directed.
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately.
• Handle cash and student meal accounts according to established procedures.
• Maintain accurate meal counts and protect student confidentiality.
• Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, serving lines, equipment, and utensils.
• Wash dishes, trays, and cookware following approved sanitation procedures.
• Assist with daily closing duties and periodic deep cleaning.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized kitchen and storage environment.
• Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and inventorying food and supplies.
• Support special events, schedule changes, non-congregate meal service, or emergency operations as needed.
• Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff, school staff, and supervisors.
