Job summary

Cumberland County Schools is seeking a part-time School Bus Safety Assistant in Fayetteville, NC to support bus drivers and ensure student safety.

Responsibilities include monitoring student conduct, documenting information, and assisting with safe loading/unloading. Valid NC driver’s license and clean driving record are required; CPR/First Aid preferred. Starting date is immediate, salary $15–$20.61 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must have a valid NC Driver’s License with a favorable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing the school bus.
• Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times.
• Assists the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitors and assists students while the bus is in operation.
• Consults with and assists bus drivers in documentation of student information and recordkeeping.
• Ensures students are properly secured in seat belts, harnesses and wheelchairs as required.
• Assists parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinates seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
• Communicates with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate.
• Ensures all incidents are properly reported and documented.
• Maintains current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Assists students on and off the bus; assures a responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.
• Complies with the transportation safety standards set by the State of North Carolina and Cumberland County Schools.
• Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.
• Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular attendance
