Job summary

Aims Community College is seeking a part-time Safety Associate to monitor and maintain the fitness facilities across its campuses in Colorado. The role requires ensuring safe equipment use, guiding guests, and enforcing rules while supporting a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include equipment demonstrations, incident reporting, and coordinating with the Facility Lead. Typical hours are 20–25 per week, with commitment to safety and excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or two years related experience in PE, recreation, fitness, wellness or related field.
• Pre-employment post-offer physical exam required; lifting, bending, standing, etc.
• Hold a valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Able to attend in-house meetings and training sessions.
• Possess effective decision‑making skills.
• Ability to communicate and work with students, faculty and staff.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Basic knowledge of weight room operations and maintenance.

• Oversee the Strength Center and Cardiovascular Conditioning Studios ensuring safe usage.
• Provide instruction on equipment use and safety orientation to user groups.
• Monitor participants and address unsafe or inappropriate behaviors.
• Enforce equipment guidelines and safety rules at all times.
• Demonstrate proper equipment use and spot individuals as needed.
• Clean equipment regularly and return weights to designated spots.
• Oversee racquetball courts and gym spaces.
• Lead in intense situations and handle emergencies, including 911 if needed.
• Answer questions in person regarding facility and courses.

Job Description:

This will include, but is not limited to: hourly cleaning and care of all fitness equipment, providing assistance to guests as needed, regular communication with Facility Lead regarding all aspects of gym operations.

This position will have hours on the Greeley and/or Windsor Campus.

Work Hours:

• Part-Time, 20 -25 hours/week within hours of operation.

Job Duties:

• Oversee the Strength Center and Cardiovascular Conditioning Studios ensuring individuals and groups are using equipment correctly and following all safety procedures.
• Monitor facility and proactively provide specific instruction for appropriate training and conditioning equipment use and give equipment safety orientation to user groups.
• Monitor participants in facility and address any unsafe or inappropriate behaviors.
• Be conscious of all equipment guidelines and regulations and consistently enforce all rules and eliminate unsafe apparel, equipment or activities.
• Demonstrate proper use of equipment and spot individuals using the Strength Center or Cardio Studios as needed or requested.
• Clean equipment periodically and return any equipment and or weights not in use to its designated location.
• Oversee racquetball courts and gymnasium spaces.
• Have the ability to lead and act in intense situations, and handle emergencies when they arise including contacting 911 if needed, reporting injury incidents to administration and completing accident and incident reports.
• Answer questions in person regarding facility and Physical Education courses, field walk-in visits.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate's degree or two (2) years physical education, recreation, fitness, wellness or related experience.
• A pre-employment post offer physical exam will be required of the selected candidate. Physical effort required, including but not limited to: lifting weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting, and prolonged standing and walking.
• Hold a valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain. CPR/First Aid/AED classes are offered to staff at no expense
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Able to attend in house meetings and training sessions.
• Possess effective decision-making skills
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Basic knowledge of all weight room operations, including proper use, care and maintenance of work out studios.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Star Trac, Pre Core and Cybex manufacturers’ equipment certification
