Job summary

Movement is seeking a part-time Routesetter to join a collaborative team in Portland. You’ll contribute to developing safe, engaging climbs and manage your daily workflow with guidance from leadership. Some setting experience is required, through Movement’s Apprenticeship or other settings.

You’ll help strip and set climbs, maintain clean work areas, and participate in safety and feedback processes. This role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and creativity within our climbing community.

Qualifications

• Some experience on a route setting team or through Movement’s Routesetting Apprenticeship Program or other setting environment.
• Strong understanding of Work at Height standards and workplace safety expectations.
• Ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
• Solid work ethic and ability to manage your own workflow.
• Excellent communication and openness to constructive feedback from the team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare setting area (boundaries, fixed lines, etc.).
• Strip wall sections to prepare for new routes/problems.
• Set high quality skeletons (first draft of a climb) on all terrain types.
• Maintain a tidy setting area and help clean at end of day.
• Adhere to safety expectations (Work at Height standards).
• Forerunning and climbing to help grade routes/problems daily.
• Be open to feedback and perform as directed.
• Collaborate with the setting team on off-wall tasks and activations.
