Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operations: ensures effective daily project operations with the NAU research team and community partners.
  • Logistics & travel: coordinates travel, accommodations, and meeting spaces for in-person meetings with Hopi Tribe and community partners.
  • Reimbursements: assists with standard reimbursement processes to the NAU Foundation.
  • Community outreach & engagement: coordinates communication across the research team and Hopi partners.
  • Data collection & dissemination: supports recruitment, consent, data storage in REDCap/Teams, analysis and dissemination materials.
  • Team communication: coordinates meetings and notetaking across multiple teams.
  • Ethics & reporting: assists with IRB amendments and project reporting.

About the Department/College

CHER is a vibrant research center at Northern Arizona University. Our staff and faculty focus on public health projects across the region and the nation, working closely with communities to improve workforce development efforts and create broader understanding of their public health challenges and achievements.


About the Position

This individual will coordinate the Health First Foundation funded community‑engaged research project, Supporting Tribal Autism Resources and Services (STARS). The STARS project will culturally adapt the evidenced‑based education and training program, Parents Taking Action, for Hopi parents and educators of autistic children from fall 2026 to summer 2027.


The part‑time research coordinator will be directly supervised by a principal investigator (PI), Dr. Olivia Lindly (Department of Health Sciences, College of Health and Human Services), and housed within the Center for Community Health and Engaged Research (CHER) at Northern Arizona University (NAU). The part‑time research coordinator will also support and regularly communicate with the project’s other two PIs, Dr. Davis Henderson and Dr. Candi Running Bear. The roles of the coordinator involve facilitating daily research activities alongside the PIs and their Hopi Tribe collaborators. This position is in‑person, with a possibility for some hybrid/remote work. The part‑time research coordinator will need to complete certain tasks at the NAU Mountain Campus and be capable of traveling to community partner sites, including but not limited to Kykotsmovi and Tuba City, Arizona.


Responsibilities Include

25% - Core Project Operations & Administrative Support



  • Day‑to‑day operations: Ensures effective daily project operations with the NAU research team and the community partners.

  • Logistics & travel: Coordinates logistical aspects of project activities (e.g., completes food orders, vehicle reservations, travel tickets/itineraries, meeting space reservations) for in‑person meetings with the Hopi Tribe and in Tuba City.

  • Reimbursements: Assists with standard reimbursement processes to the NAU Foundation.


25% - Community Outreach & Engagement



  • Communication management: Coordinates proactive communication across the research team, Hopi partners, community advisors, and NAU administrative staff in CHHS and CHER.

  • Meeting coordination: Completes meeting scheduling, creates agendas, facilitates meetings, takes high level notes summarizing key decisions and action items, and tracks action items after meetings.


20% - Data Collection, Analysis, & Dissemination



  • Participant recruitment and enrollment: Conducts participant recruitment through involvement with community outreach and engagement activities, screens interested individuals for eligibility, administers informed consent, and sends information sheet to consented participants.

  • Data collection: Establishes and maintains secure places to store data in NAU’s REDCap and on NAU Teams.

  • Collects demographic survey and interview data from families and educators.

  • Administers and enters data for brief satisfaction surveys following autism support group meetings.

  • Data analysis: Assists with the thematic analysis of qualitative data gathered from families and educators.

  • Descriptively analyzes participant demographic and support group satisfaction survey data.

  • Research dissemination: Assists with preparing dissemination materials such as posters, slide sets for oral presentations, and manuscripts.


20% - Team Communication & Coordination



  • Communication management: Coordinates proactive communication across the research team, Hopi partners, community advisors, and NAU administrative staff in CHHS and CHER.

  • Meeting coordination: Completes meeting scheduling, creates agendas, facilitates meetings, takes high level notes summarizing key decisions and action items, and tracks action items after meetings.


10% - Ethics, Regulatory, & Reporting Compliance:



  • Assists with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol amendments alongside other required ethical compliances.

  • Reporting & presentations: Assists with project reporting to the funder and community partners by creating reports and presentations.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g., psychology, public health, anthropology, sociology).

  • Applied experience working on research.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Interest in autism and/or tribal, community‑engaged research.

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g., psychology, public health, sociology).

  • Experience working with Tribal Nations.

  • Experience with Tribal human research review boards and knowledge of ethical considerations while working with Tribal communities.

  • Experience conducting interviews with families, health professionals, and/or educators.

  • Experience arranging logistics for meetings and/or travel at NAU.

  • Experience preparing peer‑reviewed conference presentations and/or manuscripts.

  • Experience planning and coordinating meetings across multiple organizations and institutions.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong and clear communication skills.

  • High level notetaking abilities.

  • Communication across multiple literacy levels.


Compensation

Hourly Rate is $31. Annual salarycommensurate with candidate's qualifications and relatedexperience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campushason-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
