An established industry player is seeking part-time lab and field research assistants to support vital research in ecology and pest management. The Tooker Lab in the Department of Entomology at Penn State is accepting applications for part-time (up to 20 hours per week) lab and field research assistant positions. Applicants should have at least a B.S. degree and an interest in ecology, evolution, plant-insect interactions, and/or agricultural pest management. Responsibilities include assisting lab members (graduate students, research scientists) with research in the lab, greenhouse, and field settings. Work may involve outdoor activities in hot or wet conditions, and driving university vehicles may be required. Projects focus on ecologically based pest management, cover crops in pest control, pollution's impact on aquatic insects, and plant defense mechanisms.
As experience is gained, assistants may work more independently. Work may include some nights and weekends, but such hours are not expected to be regular and will not exceed 20 hours per week.
This role requires operating a motor vehicle. A valid US driver’s license and a successful motor vehicle records check are required, along with standard background checks.
