Job summary

Willdan Group, Inc.’s Public Agency Resources (PARS) unit is seeking a part-time Rental Housing Inspector in Minneapolis. The role involves working with property owners, managers, tenants and city staff to promote safe and code-compliant rental housing, manage licensing, conduct inspections, and support enforcement.

Qualifications

• Certification or training in code enforcement or housing inspection, or at least one year of field inspection experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification preferred; other related certifications will be considered.
• Knowledge of residential building construction, codes, and property maintenance issues.
• Ability to interpret statutes, codes, and ordinances and apply them fairly.

Responsibilities

• Assist with rental license applications and renewals and maintain accurate records of licensed rental properties.
• Inspect residential properties, structures, premises, and vacant land for compliance with housing, building, fire, zoning, sanitation, and safety requirements.
• Schedule and conduct routine, complaint-based, follow-up, and property condition inspections.
• Prepare and issue inspection reports, notices of violation, correction orders, and other documents as authorized by the city.
• Monitor corrective work and conduct follow-up inspections to verify compliance.
• Investigate and respond to complaints and service requests from residents, property owners, tenants, and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate enforcement actions with city staff and departments and external agencies as needed.
