Part Time Registered Nurse – 0.3 FTE at Rainy River Health Centre, Nursing Department.

Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS)
  • Completion of a recognized ICU program acceptable to the Corporate (preferred)
  • Certification in Emergency Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) – preferred
  • Completion of an Emergency Nursing program – preferred
  • Three years recent experience in Nursing, preferably Emergency
  • Experience working with geriatric patients with complex medical needs – preferred

Responsibilities
  • Performs according to the Standards of Nursing Practice set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and in compliance with Riverside Health Care policies and procedures
  • Accepts clinical responsibility and professional accountability for the care delivered to assigned patients
  • Functions as a staff nurse or team leader
  • Delegates, supervises, and evaluates patient care of RN’s and HCA’s as applicable
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the nursing discipline
  • Carries out all work assignments safely and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Exercises behaviour consistent with Riverside Health Care’s Code of Conduct

  • Complies with the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (Canadian Nurses Association) and The Ethical Framework for Nurses in Ontario (College of Nurses of Ontario)
Specific Duties
  • Delivers direct/indirect patient care according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Department of Nursing objectives
    • Assessment: admits patients, obtains history, and conducts initial and ongoing assessment of nursing needs
      • Completes triage within 15 minutes of presentation to the ER department according to CTAS guidelines
    • Planning: develops a plan of care, assigns priorities, and prescribes nursing actions to achieve desired outcomes
      • Communicates promptly with physician according to CTAS guidelines with a concise assessment
      • Assures the plan of care is feasible in terms of human resources, time, and material resources
      • Ensures nursing supplies and equipment are properly used, with sufficient supplies for care delivery
      • Revises plan of care as dictated by the patient’s needs and medical plan of care
    • Implementation: coordinates and executes physician’s orders, coordinates activities of other health team members
      • Performs nursing actions required for implementation of patient care plan at a skill level that demonstrates required knowledge and expertise
      • Implements a teaching plan based on patient, resident, and family identified needs
      • Provides support to patient/resident and family in understanding and coping with illness
      • Communicates and consults with physicians and other health care professionals as indicated
      • Completes assigned duties systematically, conserving time, energy, and supplies
      • Assists patients/residents to achieve or maintain optimal independence
      • Provides care to ensure safety and well‑being of the individual patient, including the environment
    • Evaluation: continuously evaluates outcomes of nursing care, modifies nursing measures and approaches accordingly
      • Evaluates with the patient/resident the results of nursing actions to increase or maintain self‑care ability
      • Revises with the patient, family, and relevant others the expected patient outcome, priority and nursing actions as required
      • Maintains appropriate documentation and records of observations, nursing care administered, and patient response
      • Ensures continuity of patient care through effective reporting at shift change
  • Participates in departmental and related committees/meetings when required
  • Participates in educational activities and programs for patients/residents and staff
  • Facilitates orientation of new staff
  • Reports untoward/unusual incidents to the Nursing Supervisor or designate, and records appropriately
  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for independent actions
  • Attends and participates in appropriate courses, conferences and workshops to promote professional growth and development
  • Assists in the evaluation of staff performance
  • Participates in the department’s quality management program
  • Ensures Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Program standards are met
  • Ensures the environment is safe and reports all potential hazardous situations to immediate supervisor/OHS Canada
  • Other duties or responsibilities as may be delegated by the Nursing Supervisor or delegate
