The Part-Time Recovery Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality post-operative care to patients recovering from surgery or anesthesia. This role involves closely monitoring patients' vital signs, ensuring their comfort and safety, and providing support during the immediate recovery phase. .


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Post-Operative Care:
    Monitor and assess patients' physical and emotional responses after surgery or anesthesia.
    Administer prescribed medications and manage pain relief as per doctor's orders.
    Ensure patients are recovering without complications, such as infection or excessive bleeding.
  • Vital Signs Monitoring:
    Monitor patients’ vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate.
    Respond promptly to any changes in patient conditions and alert the appropriate medical staff if necessary.
  • Patient Education & Communication:
    Provide clear explanations to patients about their recovery process, pain management, and any post-operative instructions.
    Communicate effectively with patients and their families to alleviate concerns and answer questions.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and recovery progress.
    Report any concerns or significant changes in patient status to the attending physician or surgical team.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork:
    Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth recovery process.
    Participate in team meetings to discuss patient outcomes and recovery plans.
  • Patient Safety:
    Ensure a safe and comfortable recovery environment, following infection control procedures.
    Provide assistance with positioning, mobility, and other recovery-related tasks.
  • Emergency Response:
    Recognize early signs of complications such as respiratory distress, bleeding, or adverse reactions and take appropriate action.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current RN license.
  • BLS (CPR) and ACLS certification required.
  • Additional certifications in post-anesthesia care or recovery room nursing preferred.
  • 2+ years of nursing experience (GI and/or critical care preferred).
  • Experience in handling patients under general anesthesia or sedation is highly preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude toward patients and families.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of nursing processes, pharmacology, and physiological systems.
  • Willingness to travel to Lawrenceville and Johns Creek as needed.
