Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia (UVA) through McGuffey Reading Services seeks applicants for a temporary, part-time reading teacher/supervisor in the Reading Intervention Program.

Responsibilities include planning and supervising targeted reading instruction for a small group, coordinating with clinical staff, and delivering instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and writing. A bachelor's degree is required; 1+ year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience: 1+ year of relevant experience required.
• Licensure: None.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and/or supervise targeted reading intervention lessons for a small group of students.
• Collaborate with McGuffey's clinical staff to develop an intensive instructional program.
• Deliver systematic teaching of phonemic awareness, phonics/decoding, and spelling to build word recognition.
• Provide targeted fluency instruction to improve reading rate, accuracy, and prosody.
• Lead comprehension instruction addressing background knowledge, vocabulary, and strategy use.
• Incorporate writing instruction within lessons.
• Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress.
