Job summary

Carteret County Government is seeking Part-time CCATS Drivers to join the team in Morehead City, NC. A good driving record and a friendly, courteous personality are essential. The office location is at the General Services office in Morehead City, NC.

Drivers operate transit vehicles on assigned routes with safety and customer service as priorities. Minimum requirements include being at least 21 years old with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and the ability to pass pre-employment

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of regional traffic rules and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of the geography of the County.
• Ability to operate passenger vehicles and related equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to remain alert and to remain calm during periods of stress.
• Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
• Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Ability to perform simple math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
• Ability to read maps; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safety of vehicles and passengers.
• Performs daily inspections of vehicle for fluid and oil levels as well as tires, water and battery and lifts; responsible for keeping vehicle clean and free of debris.
• Assists all passengers in boarding and departing from vehicle, including packages.
• Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
• Maintains accurate records as required; delivers required records to dispatcher daily.
• Operates two-way radio, reports unusual traffic conditions, bus condition, passenger emergencies or other problems.
• Adheres to vehicle schedules to ensure passengers arrive at their destination on time.
• Operates transit vehicle on an assigned route and schedule as assigned by dispatcher.
• Wears uniforms while on duty.
• Reports any vehicle problems immediately to the Dispatcher.Follows prescribed policies and procedures as directed.
