Middle Georgia State University seeks a Part Time Public Safety Officer to perform various duties including patrols, crime prevention, and assistance in emergencies. This position is temporary and ideal for candidates with a GED and strong interpersonal skills. Prior security or customer service experience is preferred.
Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. MGA has five campuses-Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, all located in central Georgia-and global outreach through its fully-online campus. Job SummaryThis part-time position performs various support duties for the police department which include visible patrols, crime prevention, monitoring parking, key requests, traffic control, and other related duties as assigned.
ResponsibilitiesDuty 1 -
Performs visible patrols throughout the campuses to deter crime and provide assistance as needed
Duty 2 -
Unlocks and secures doors and assists with access control on campuses
Duty 3 -
Works rotating shifts to include days, nights and weekends.
Duty 4 -
Performs audits on call boxes and alarms to ensure each is in working order
Duty 5 -
Assists in fire drills or other emergency training drills
Duty 6 -
Assists with student escorts
Duty 7 -
Responds to calls for assistance when necessary
Duty 8 -
Monitors parking lots and issues parking citations
Duty 9 -
Assists with administrative tasks (i.e. making student ID¿s or answering phones)
Duty 10 -
Supports the police department in special events for parking and crowd control
Duty 11 -
Observes and reports unsafe practices, suspicious activity and coordinates with the police department concerning emergencies
Duty 12 -
Prepares incident reports, maintains duty logs
Duty 13 -
Follow established protocols
Duty 14 -
Performs other administrative and job-related duties as assigned
Required QualificationsRequired Educational Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a GED is required.
Other Required Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform tasks associated with the position are required.
Must possess a valid driver¿s license.
Must complete any assigned training courses relevant to position
Preferred Educational Qualifications
College attendance is preferred.
Preferred Experience
Prior security, customer service or comparable experience is preferred
Other Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Middle Georgia State University is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesSkill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public
Skill in oral and written communications
Skill with computers and software programs (i.e. Word, Excel)
Must have sufficient computer experience with Microsoft Word and the ability to learn department-related software.
