Job Description


PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for the preparation of news releases and other media relations efforts. Cover campus events and other newsworthy activities to promote good relations between faculty staff, students, and the community. Advise the Director of College Relations regarding college/public relations opportunities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare news releases for distribution to local media
  2. Interviews faculty, staff, students and administrators for inclusion in news releases
  3. Serves as secondary college contact for media queries; Furnishes information about the college, and assists reporters with stories as requested
  4. Serves as assistant editor of college publications
  5. Takes appropriate photographs to accompany articles for publications and news releases
  6. Assists in planning and implementing a college marketing plan for program publicity and promotion
  7. Writes for a variety of college marketing materials and publications
  8. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • College level oral and written communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented, team player and technologically savvy
  • Must be comfortable with Microsoft Excel, Word and Publisher
  • Familiarity with Lone Star College

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Salary


Hourly Pay Rate is $19.69
