RADIO-TELEVISION SERVICES (BL-RTVS-IUBLA)

Job Summary

Production Crew members operate a variety of specialized production equipment in support of on-location and studio-based audio and video productions.
Department-Specific Responsibilities

  1. Level 1 Production Crew
    • Attends training for knowledge of camera operation.
    • Practices running studio cameras and following instructions from the Director.
    • Trains to execute basic camera moves; pan, tilt, dolly and truck. Will continue to train on the camera to learn more elaborate functions.
    • Trains to competently operate teleprompter system.
    • Trains to competently serve as a grip on field productions or a utility on studio productions.
    • Introduces Handheld and/or Jib camera operation.
    • Introduces to and begins training on Chyron and/or Ross Expression graphics systems.
    • Introduces to multiple control room and field positions including stage manager, tape operator, audio and more.
    • Introduces to the Switcher and Technical Director position. Is shown basic operation and signal flow.
    • Setups and breaks down of productions.
    • Begins training on all, Tier 1 crew assignments.
  2. Level 2 Production Crew
    • Performs all Tier 1 crew assignments.
    • Performs a minimum of (1) Tier 2 crew assignment.
    • Operates cameras and can follow instructions from the Director.
    • Operates teleprompter system; edit and load scripts, adjust timing, interface with closed captioning.
    • Serves as a grip on field productions or a utility on studio productions.
    • Shadows and practices of multiple control room and field positions including stage manager, tape operator, audio and more.
    • Shadows and trains on the Switcher and Technical Director position, and the Assistant Director (AD) position.
    • Sets up and breaks down of productions.
  3. Level 3 Production Crew
    • Performs all Tier 1 crew assignments.
    • Performs a minimum of (2) Tier 2 crew assignments or (1) Tier 3 assignment.
    • Operates cameras and can follow instructions from the Director.
    • Operates teleprompter system; edit and load scripts, adjust timing, interface with closed captioning.
    • Serves as a grip on field productions or a utility on studio productions.
    • Works on multiple control room and field positions including stage manager, tape operator, audio and more.
    • Works on the Switcher and Technical Director position, and Assistant Director (AD) position.
    • Engages in shadowing and hands-on training of Director position.
    • Sets up and breaks down of productions.
    • Engages in light training of new Production Trainees.
    • Continues training of loading predesigned full screen graphics and lower thirds, basic modification to existing graphics (modifying type, etc.) begin learning to design graphics pages from scratch.
  4. Level 4 Production Crew
    • Performs all Tier 1 crew assignments.
    • Performs a minimum of (5) Tier 2 crew assignments and (3) Tier 3 assignment.
    • Exhibits full knowledge of Content Group productions.
    • Operates cameras and follow instructions/commands from the Director.
    • Serves as a grip on field productions or a utility on studio productions.
    • Leads multiple control room and field positions including stage manager, tape operator, audio and more.
    • Operates Handheld and/or the Jib camera.
    • Sets up and breaks down of productions.
    • Trains new Production Trainees and Production Crew members.
    • Engages in hands-on training and live work of the Director position.
    • Continues growth in advanced switcher functions, DME, Keying, Timelines and Macros.

Advertised Salary

$12.50 per hour to start, with the opportunity to progress in pay 2 times per year (opportunities going into fiscal year start in July and mid-year in January).
Progression plans pay for this part-time position is currently:
  1. Level 1: $12.50 per hour
  2. Level 2: $14 per hour
  3. Level 3: $15.50 per hour
  4. Level 4: $17.00 per hour

Work Hours

Work shifts will be varied throughout the week.
Evening, weekend, and holiday work will likely be required given event schedule and client needs.
Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
