Job description

We're looking for a warm, experienced tutor to work with four siblings (ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade) two mornings a week in Franklin, Tennessee.

The family homeschooled for the past two years, and this fall the kids are starting a tutorial program where they'll attend classes part of the week and learn at home the rest. Their family is looking for someone to take the lead on reading, writing, and math during those home mornings, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The family wants someone consistent and someone the kids get to know well and look forward to seeing every week.

Student Profiles

You’ll work with four siblings, ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade, who have learned at home together for the past two years. Their mom knows each of them well and will be an engaged, invested partner in this work.

This fall is a transition year for the family. The kids are joining a tutorial program, and your job is the home side of that week: focused reading, writing, and math at each child's own level, two mornings at a time.

These are kids who are doing well. What the family wants is steady progress in the core subjects and the confidence that comes with it, without losing the love of learning they've built at home.

What You’ll Do
  • Plan and teach reading, writing, and math on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, working with the kids one-on-one and in small sibling groups.
  • Teach at four different levels in a single morning, keeping the kids you’re not working with engaged in something worthwhile.
  • Build on what the kids are covering at their tutorial program, filling gaps and adding challenge where each one needs it.
  • Work with Thrive’s Educational Management team and the family on goals, materials, and progress.
  • Keep sessions lively. More conversation, reading aloud, and hands‑on math than worksheets.
  • Give the family a clear picture of how each child is doing and what’s coming next.
  • Adjust your approach as the kids settle into the tutorial program through the fall.
What Makes Someone Successful
  • Warm and encouraging. You enjoy kids, and it shows.
  • Strong in the fundamentals. You can teach reading, writing, and math well, at several different levels, in the same morning.
  • Organized. Four kids in a four‑hour window takes real planning. You show up prepared and make the time count.
  • Flexible. You bring structure without being rigid, and you can change course when a child or a morning calls for it.
  • Relational. Kids and parents come to trust you quickly, and you understand that fit matters as much as credentials.
  • Dependable. The family is building their week around these two mornings, and they need someone who treats that commitment seriously.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant teaching or tutoring experience
  • Experience teaching reading, writing, and math across multiple levels
  • Experience partnering with parents and families
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Located within commuting distance of Franklin, Tennessee
  • Reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Teaching certification
  • Experience teaching across multiple age groups or developmental stages
  • Experience in private education, home-based education, tutorial or hybrid programs, or other highly personalized learning environments
  • Experience working closely with a private family in their home

Professional Standards

  • Current background check required; Thrive facilitates this process
  • Verifiable references from prior teaching or tutoring roles, including at least one direct supervisor or administrator
  • Strong professionalism, discretion, and adaptability when working within a family's hom

Compensation

  • $60 to $90 per hour, based on experience and credentials
  • Part-time independent contractor, engaged through Thrive
  • Curriculum and approved learning materials provided

Logistics

  • Location: Franklin, Tennessee; in-home
  • Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM (about 8 hours per week)
  • Start Date: As soon as the right match is made

  • Dedicated placement coordinator throughout the hiring process
  • Collaboration with Thrive’s Educational Management team on planning, assessment, and educational strategy
  • Access to Thrive’s educator network and resources
  • Opportunity for additional placements through Thrive as your availability allows
Why This Role

Part‑time roles like this don’t come up often. The schedule is set and predictable, the hourly pay is strong, and the family truly values what a good educator brings.

Two consistent mornings a week is enough time to really get somewhere with these four kids. And because the schedule is contained, the role fits well alongside other teaching, tutoring, or family commitments. You’ll have Thrive’s team behind you for planning and support, and the mornings themselves are yours to run.

If you love working with kids one‑on‑one and want teaching that fits the rest of your life, this is worth a conversation.
