Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking a part-time editor to shape and refine our Press Freedom newsletters and related social video content. This hourly role averages about 5 hours per week and offers flexible scheduling on a project basis.

You will review, edit, and polish copy for clarity and accuracy, help develop a distinctive voice for these products, and collaborate with writers, producers, and editors to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated editing experience in news or publications.
• Strong writing, copyediting, and storytelling across text and video formats.
• Familiarity with newsletter platforms and social video workflows.
• Interest in press freedom or international journalism is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Edit and refine Press Freedom newsletter copy and social video scripts for clarity, accuracy, and engagement.
• Shape and evolve the distinctive voice for these products, weaving news, opinion, and talent-first narratives.
• Maintain consistent editorial standards across written and visual formats.
• Coordinate with newsletter writers, video producers, and the Press Freedom team to meet deadlines.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen storytelling, context, and relevance for diverse audiences.
• Collaborate with the Press Freedom team to enhance format, tone, and reader/viewer experience.
