Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is hiring a part-time preschool teacher to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children ages 1 through 5. You will use developmentally appropriate, play-based strategies to support cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical growth while partnering with families.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Lead Teacher qualifications as defined by VA DOE Division of Child Care Health and Safety.
• CPR/First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Able to work at multiple program locations and pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum plans with play-based activities.
• Establish a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
• Monitor and document children’s progress and share updates with families.
• Engage parents and the community through regular communication and involvement.
• Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance early learning practices.
