Job summary

The Diocese of Lansing seeks a Preschool Instructional Aide to join Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Lansing. This part-time role supports learning, nurtures relationships, and helps create a warm, high-quality classroom where every child is known.

You will participate in team teaching, lead groups, document observations, monitor behavior, and assist with lunchroom and playground supervision. Qualifications include an Associate degree (or preschool CDA), experience with 3–5-year-olds,

Qualifications

• Associate degree in early childhood education or child development, or preschool CDA certification.
• Experience working with 3–5-year-old children.
• Able to follow verbal or written directions.
• Able to observe, describe, and react appropriately to student behaviors.
• Physical strength to perform lifting and related duties.
• Able to work under stress due to student demands.
• Knowledge of positive discipline methods and positive interaction with students and staff.
• Training in CPR & First Aid, or willingness to be certified.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check (fingerprinting) before employment and periodically afterward.

Responsibilities

• Engage in a team-teaching model, including planning and implementing curriculum.
• Lead small and large groups during classroom instruction.
• Interact positively with children during choice time.
• Write anecdotal records and child assessments.
• Monitor behaviors and apply appropriate disciplinary consequences as authorized by the building principal and teacher.
• Inform the principal or teacher of serious student problems with written reports.
• Assist in lunchroom and playground supervision as assigned by the program director.
• Maintain a consistent daily routine and a safe learning environment.
• Maintain confidentiality and a professional attitude.
• Ensure licensing protocols are followed.
• Other duties as assigned by teacher or program director.
• Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
