Job summary

The City of Lompoc Parks & Recreation Department is recruiting for Lifeguard to supervise the pool, maintain safety, and respond to emergencies at the Aquatic Center. This position offers part-time, on-call hours with non-benefited status.

Incumbents will work varied shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, follow regulations, complete related reports, and participate in trainings. Applicants need to be at least 16 years old and hold current CPR/AED, First Aid, and lifeguard

Qualifications

• Knowledge of lifeguarding and swimming principles and safety guidelines.
• Ability to apply emergency procedures promptly and calmly.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Flexibility to work varying hours and shifts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Review and follow emergency procedures and respond immediately.
• Enforce safety rules and policies for the aquatic center.
• Maintain accurate records and reports as required.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure available equipment.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions on arrival.
• Perform chemical testing when not lifeguarding and take action.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Assist in cleaning pool and assigned areas.
• Maintain professionalism and customer service with patrons.
• Assist in Recreation Division activities and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
