Job summary

The City of Bay City, Michigan is seeking a part-time Plumbing & Mechanical Inspector in the Building Code Enforcement Department. The role involves plan reviews and field inspections of plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection systems to ensure code compliance.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and be registered under Act 407 as plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection plan reviewers/inspectors, plus a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must meet Act 407 of 2016 requirements and be registered as plumbing plan reviewer and inspector.
• Must meet Act 407 of 2016 requirements and be registered as mechanical plan reviewer and inspector.
• Must meet Act 407 of 2016 requirements and be registered as fire protection plan reviewer and inspector.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license.
• Reliable transportation to be used driving to inspections.

Responsibilities

• Explain plumbing, mechanical and fire protection codes to architects, engineers, owners, contractors and the public during inspections.
• Coordinate issues with contractors and residents during construction or complaints.
• Inspect plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, and HVACR systems to ensure conformance with codes and safety standards.
• Issue written notices of code violations requiring corrective action.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, violations and complaints.
• Provide high level customer service to City staff, public and businesses.
• Evaluate and revise procedures and rules to align with code inspection policies.
• Drive to inspection sites and perform required inspections.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
