Job description

The City of Maryland Heights is accepting applications for a Part-time Play Center Attendant. This position works in the Community Center and is responsible for the care and safety of children in the Play Center.

Play Center Attendant is a part-time year-round position. The position works approximately 20-25 hours per week. The varied work schedule will include evenings, weekends and holidays. Individuals hired for this position must pass a drug test and a background check.

The position pays $15.25 per hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESActs as the primary contact with parents; communicates with young children using words and behaviors appropriate for their age; Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills by interacting with parents and children in a professional manner. Ensures that equipment, toys, games and facilities are clean, sanitized, well-maintained and safe at all times. Receives and dismisses children to parents using approved security policies; engages children in creative play, songs and stories and provides a happy experience; familiarizes self with emergency procedures; performs duties as necessary to prepare for or respond to a disaster. Picks up trash and debris; uses check-in technology and radio communication devices; other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS1. Prior experience working with children preferred
2. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with parents and children in a professional manner; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
3. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, lift and carry up to 50 pounds
4. Must be able to work harmoniously with co-workers and patrons
5. Must follow all safety rules
6. Must have evening and weekend availability
