Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties seeks an Exercise Instructor (Pilates and/or Barre) to lead energetic group classes at the Pearl Street Family YMCA in Tacoma, WA. This part-time role emphasizes safe instruction, diverse populations, and building member engagement.

With 1+ year of experience preferred, the position offers flexible scheduling, YMCA membership perks, and ongoing professional development through YMCA certifications and safety trainings.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience teaching group exercise classes.
• Certification in Group Exercise or related specialty preferred.
• YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning and/or Foundations of Group Exercise or equivalent (ACE/ACSM/AFAA) preferred.
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications preferred.
• Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day.

Responsibilities

• Conduct energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
• Design the class to improve flexibility, strength, muscular endurance, and cardio-respiratory conditioning.
• Perform aerobic/fitness techniques with varying intensity levels and provide clear directions.
• Be available before and after classes to build relationships with members and retain participants.
• Maintain equipment organization and assist in compiling program statistics.
• Adhere to safety protocols, promote inclusivity, and participate in required training.
