Job summary

Ellis and Badenhausen Ortho in Louisville, KY is seeking a full-time Orthopedic PA-C to support surgical teams in the perioperative setting. The PA-C will review patient histories, assist with preoperative assessments, and participate in operative care under supervision.

The ideal candidate holds a KY license (or eligibility), NCCPA certification, and current CPR; strong teamwork, communication, and ethical standards are essential. Generous pay, benefits, and professional privileges are offered.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient history, medications, allergies, diagnostic results, and surgical plan before surgery.
  • Perform preoperative evaluations with supervising physician.
  • Assist with preparing patients for surgery, including documentation and coordination.
  • Serve as first assistant during orthopedic procedures as assigned.
  • Assist with patient positioning, surgical-site preparation, exposure, and maintaining field visualization.
  • Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, dressings, and postoperative devices within privileges.
  • Communicate with surgeon, anesthesia, nursing, and team about patient status and needs.
  • Complete operative documentation, postoperative orders, prescriptions, and other medical records as authorized.
  • Evaluate postoperative patients, identify changes, and communicate concerns to supervising physician.
  • Conduct postoperative rounds, monitor progress, and coordinate plan of care with hospital team.
  • Educate patients and families about procedure, care, restrictions, medications, wound care, and follow-up instructions.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate care within training and certification.
  • Participate in surgical call coverage within approved scope of practice.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA/compliance with infection-control rules.
  • Maintain licensure, certification, continuing education, credentialing, and privileges.
  • Perform other surgery-related duties as assigned by supervising physician.

We are a busy orthopedic practice in Louisville, Kentucky looking to hire an Orthopedic PA-C. The individual should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, a team player, capable of multitasking, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Position Title: PA-C

Reports to: Physicians and Executive Director

The PA-C provides care exclusively within the surgical and perioperative setting under the direction of the supervising physician and in accordance with applicable laws, credentialing requirements, facility policies, and granted clinical privileges.

  • Review the patient’s medical history, medications, allergies, diagnostic results, surgical plan, and other relevant clinical information before surgery.
  • Perform and document preoperative evaluations, including histories and physical examinations, when requested and permitted by the supervising physician and facility.
  • Assist with preparing patients for surgery, including confirming required documentation, reviewing relevant test results, and identifying concerns that may affect the planned procedure.
  • Serve as first during orthopaedic surgical procedures as assigned by the supervising surgeon.
  • Assist with patient positioning, surgical-site preparation, draping, exposure, retraction, suction, irrigation, and maintaining visualization of the surgical field.
  • Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, suturing, stapling, application of dressings, splints, casts, braces, or other postoperative devices within the PA-C’s training and approved privileges.
  • Communicate with the surgeon, anesthesia team, nursing staff, and other members of the surgical team regarding the patient’s condition and procedural needs.
  • Complete or assist with operative documentation, postoperative orders, discharge instructions, prescriptions, and other required medical-record documentation as authorized.
  • Evaluate patients in the immediate postoperative period, identify changes or complications, and promptly communicate concerns to the supervising physician.
  • Perform postoperative hospital rounds, monitor patient progress, review laboratory and diagnostic results, and coordinate the surgical plan of care with the supervising physician and hospital team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding the surgical procedure, postoperative care, restrictions, medications, wound care, equipment, and follow-up instructions.
  • Respond to surgical or postoperative emergencies and provide appropriate care, including CPR, within the PA-C’s training and certification.
  • Participate in surgical call coverage as assigned, consistent with the PA-C’s approved scope of practice and facility privileges.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, sterile-technique, and facility-specific requirements.
  • Maintain required licensure, certification, continuing education, credentialing, and hospital or ambulatory surgery center privileges.
  • Perform other surgery-related duties assigned by the supervising physician that are consistent with the PA-C’s education, training, experience, and approved scope of practice.

Required

Current state KY license, or eligible for same; certified by NCCPA

Current CPR certification.
