Job summary

American Oncology Network is seeking a phlebotomy/lab technician to perform blood draws, lab testing, and quality control. You will follow specimen handling procedures and document results in the EMR, while maintaining safety standards.

Role requires at least one year of phlebotomy experience and a high school diploma or GED. On-site position with occasional overtime and diverse lab duties across company locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy and blood draws with accuracy.

  • Prepare slides for evaluation and manage sample transport.
  • Document results and enter data into EMR as required.
  • Maintain laboratory safety and cleanliness and comply with regulations.

Position Summary

Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance.

$15.46 - $24.44

Primary Key Performance Areas
  • Responsible for performing proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing.
  • Perform laboratory blood work.
  • Perform blood draws
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
  • Send outside labs to appropriate facility as dictated by patient’s insurance plan.
  • Receive lab reports via the telephone, lab system, or fax and document in the patient’s chart or Onco/EMR for physician’s review.
  • Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies.
  • Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies. Place orders with purchasing as needed.
  • In the absence of the Lab QA Specialist, initiate troubleshooting procedures when instrument malfunction occurs and contact central lab or instrument service company if necessary.
  • Perform therapeutic phlebotomy.
  • Perform any and all duties required to keep laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies. Must be able to perform compliance testing.
  • Must take the required number of CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements
  • Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
  • Comply will all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patient’s rights, safety, billing, and collections. Adhere to all Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
  • Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
  • Will be expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs.
  • Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
