Position Summary

Assists pharmacists with inventory and inspections, including maintaining records. Receives and processes orders, packages drugs, and keeps pharmacy spaces orderly.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Pharmacy Technician I / II

1. Inspect all drug storage locations on a regular schedule. Check dates, replenish drugs and supplies to par levels, and maintain inspection records.
2. Receive, prioritize, package, and mail village clinic drug and pharmacy supply orders; communicate with village health aides for clarification or problems.
3. Perform drug packaging and labeling tasks.
4. Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosage forms.
5. Conduct regular inventories, prepare drug and supply orders, receive, unpack, store supplies, rotate inventory to maintain current dating, and remove outdated drugs for return.
6. Maintain pharmacy and drug storage areas clean and orderly; clean utensils, glassware, counters, and sinks as needed.
7. Review physician orders for intravenous solution additives and calculate and prepare additive drugs, materials, and labels required for admixtures.
8. Assist in bulk operations as assigned.
9. As experience is obtained, identify correct auxiliary labels for each medication.
10. Perform and/or assume other job or work‑related duties as assigned.

Pharmacy Technician III

13. Provide on‑call backup support in rotation to assist the licensed registered pharmacist during codes, disaster, or as deemed necessary.
14. Perform and/or assume other job or work‑related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

Pharmacy Technician I

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• College‑level coursework in chemistry or a related medical field preferred.
• In process of obtaining a pharmacy technician license from the State of Alaska.
• Successful completion of the State of Alaska background check for licensing.
• Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric system.
• Effective communication skills with a variety of healthcare professionals.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolonged periods of time, and familiarity with computers.

Pharmacy Technician II

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• College‑level coursework in chemistry or a related medical field preferred.
• Obtain a pharmacy technician license from the State of Alaska before beginning work.
• Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric system.
• Experience in a clinical setting and familiarity with medical terminology required.
• Willingness to attend job‑related training and education programs.
• Willingness to be on call during declared disasters.
• Familiarity with JCAHO requirements and documentation in patient files.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to use RPMS or equivalent used in the department.
• 6 months previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician I.
• Familiarity with the current drug wholesale order system or equivalent.
• Alaska Pharmacy Technician License required.

Pharmacy Technician III

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pharmacy Technician License from the State of Alaska before beginning work.
• Pharmacy Technician Board Certification required.
• College‑level coursework in chemistry or a related medical field preferred.
• Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric system.
• Experience in a clinical setting and familiarity with medical terminology required.
• Willingness to attend job‑related training and education programs.
• Willingness to be on call during declared disasters.
• Familiarity with JCAHO requirements and documentation in patient files.
