Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a part-time Phlebotomist to join our client site team in Petoskey, MI. The role requires availability Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9am to 5pm.

You will perform phlebotomy and related lab duties, ensuring proper specimen handling and patient safety across age groups. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience, familiarity with EMR systems, and strong patient communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
• Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types (infant to geriatric).
• Familiar with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.
• Familiar with medical EMR systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Bilingual skills (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards.
• Provides post-phlebotomy patient care.
• Identifies need for patient medical assistance and calls code as appropriate.
• Reviews refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; reports findings.
• Labels, processes, and handles specimens per protocols.
• Obtains physician orders and accurately orders tests in the computer system.
• Maintains a low recollection/cancellation rate.
• Adheres to patient safety goals and proper identification procedures.
• Represents a friendly, professional demeanor and communicates updates to patients and staff.
• Travels to additional sites when needed.
