Job Overview

Personal Trainers within Campus Recreation are fitness professionals with the knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate safe and effective exercise and fitness program design. Trainers provide instruction, motivation, and accountability to help clients reach their personal health and fitness goals.

Essential Functions
  • Provide quality customer service to all individuals including faculty, staff and students.
  • Positively represent Campus Recreation and Wake Forest University.
  • Uphold and clearly communicate facility and university rules and regulations; apply safe practices and hold users accountable.
  • Attend staff meetings and required monthly trainings.
  • Perform all training in uniform and with a name tag when appropriate.
  • Provide an initial consultation to the client to identify goals, medical conditions, training needs or preferences.
  • Inform client of required payment fees and verify, confirm, and receive payment prior to any training session.
  • Clean and organize Personal Training equipment after use.
Education, Certifications, and Training
  • Must have current or obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Must hold a nationally recognized Personal Trainer certification (e.g., ACSM, NASM, ACE, NSCA, CSCS, AFAA, etc.) and maintain it per the provider’s guidelines.
  • Must complete required departmental training designed to supplement the knowledge and skills obtained via certification prior to training any client.

  • Excellent communication, time‑management, and organizational skills.
  • Energetic and outgoing personality with the ability to multi‑task and work independently.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and punctual.
  • Previous exercise and fitness experience.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to safely coach and demonstrate physical exercises.

Environmental Conditions

May occasionally participate in special events that occur in outdoor environments with heat or cold conditions.

Employment Details

Time Type Requirement: Part time.
