Job summary

Lone Star College-System Office is seeking an IT Technician III to support and maintain computer systems, desktops, and peripherals on site. The role includes diagnosing, repairing, upgrading hardware, and training end users to ensure optimal workstation performance.

Responsibilities include resolving PC problems, assisting with inventory, and documenting issues while coordinating with IT teams and stakeholders to uphold service quality.

Qualifications

  • Proficient with Windows, Mac, and Unix operating systems and related IT concepts.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to explain technical topics to non-technical users.
  • Ability to document issues, propose solutions, and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Work with end users to identify and deliver required PC services.
  • Act as liaison and provide training and support to end users and staff on computer operations.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware and software.
  • Document hardware failures and repairs, and maintain inventory of peripherals.
  • Assist in logging, reporting, and monitoring PC performance and processes.
  • Provide on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of semi-complex PC problems for a variety of end users.
  • Maintain knowledge of hardware contracts and supervise contract-based installations.
  • Support cross-team collaboration to improve IT services and user experience.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Technician III supports and maintains computer systems,desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing,repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipmentwhile ensuring optimal workstation performance. The Technician IIItroubleshoots problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion andprovides end user training and assistance where required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Work with end users to identify and deliver required PCservices
  2. Act as a liaison and provides training and support to end usersand staff on computer operations and other issues
  3. Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshootlevel III end user workstation hardware, networked peripheraldevices, and networking hardware products
  4. Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshootassociated end user workstation software and networking softwareproducts
  5. Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution ofsemi-complex PC problems for a variety of end users, and recommendand implement corrective hardware solutions, including off-siterepair as needed
  6. Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mailsregarding PC and/or hardware problems
  7. Help maintain an inventory of all monitors, keyboards, harddrives, modems, printers, scanners, and other peripheralequipment
  8. Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures forlogging, reporting, and statistically monitoring PCperformance
  9. Document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation,and removal
  10. Construct, install, and test customized configurations based onvarious platforms and operating systems
  11. Recommend, schedule, and perform PC, hardware and peripheralequipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs
  12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hardware and equipmentcontracts and supervises contract-based installations
  13. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Highly detailed understanding of Windows, Mac, and Unixoperating systems and/or AV systems as required
  • Background of strong customer service orientation
  • Highly skilled at explaining technical subjects to non-technical as well as technical customers
  • Has expertise in principles and concepts underlying an area ofIT
  • Current and proficient in any new concepts or practices in ownIT discipline, and applies that knowledge to the current work
  • Has in-depth understanding of the different aspects of theCollege's purpose and operations (academic; research;administrative)
  • Has some awareness of external trends and best practices
  • Has basic knowledge of project management
  • Ability to represent and promote the team's mission and goalsacross teams, processes, and departments, as needed. Knows whensupport from outside the team is needed to help move forward andacts accordingly
  • Ability to write and present reports and/or proposals thatpersuade or communicate important messages
  • Understands and interprets other viewpoints and assimilatesthem, as appropriate, into new or revised work processes andproducts
  • Ability to work to resolve conflicts (e.g., technicaldisagreements or design reviews) in own work unit
  • Ability to make decisions guided by IT and the College'sprecedents and objectives
  • Ability to makes decisions and recommendations on issuesaffecting projects and a client base
  • Demonstrated ability to work with management, which helpscreate standards for a team and assists in establishing methods ofaccountability for the completion of assignments and tasks
