Part-Time Patient Care Technician - Ortho Unit

Join our team at UPMC as a Part-Time Patient Care Technician in the 4B Orthopedic Unit. This role involves working one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift weekly, with at least four weekend shifts over six weeks, and rotating holidays.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing patient care, assisting with procedures, and supporting activities of daily living.
• Performing nursing assistant duties such as vital signs, specimen collection, and at least four specialized tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, EKG, dressing changes).
• Reporting equipment issues and communicating effectively across departments.
• Supporting patient and family education, applying restraints, and maintaining safety protocols.
• Documenting care accurately and completing clerical tasks.
• Achieving competency in advanced skills as needed, such as IV removal or EKG interpretation.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Either 1 year healthcare experience, or 6 months as a UPMC CNA/PCT, or enrollment in a health sciences program, or a bachelor's in a related field.
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician training and basic system training.
• CPR certification within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.

Additional preferred qualifications include EMT or Paramedic certification and microcomputer skills. Access to medications is limited to distribution to nurses.
