Job summary

The City of Springfield, TN is seeking a hands-on Park Maintenance Worker to support maintenance, patrolling, and preservation of the city park system.

Responsibilities include enforcing park rules, assisting park patrons, opening/closing parks, reporting issues, and performing custodial tasks. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid Tennessee driver's license. Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather is required.

Qualifications

• Valid Tennessee driver’s license and ability to pass a physical examination.
• Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Patrols park locations to ensure park rules are followed.

• Clean and stock park restrooms; maintain dugout facilities.

Job description

Purpose of Job

Perform general, manual labor in the maintenance, patrolling, and preservation of the City of Springfield park system.

Essential Job Duties

1. Patrols all park locations and areas to ensure park rules are being followed.
2. Provides assistance to park patrons and provides information when needed.
3. Opens and closes all parks at the specified times.
4. Reports vandals and violators immediately to the Springfield Police Department.
5. Performs general grounds and building cleaning including emptying garbage receptacles and replacing liners.
6. Cleans and supplies all restrooms in the park system.
7. Maintains dugout facilities by emptying garbage receptacles and sweeping out each dugout.

Other Job Duties

1. Works special assignments or events at the parks as needed.
2. Performs other related work as required.

Primary Job Challenges

1. Performing manual labor for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
2. Following proper safety procedures for each assignment to ensure completion without injury or damage.
3. Keeping current on safety practices of custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.

Equipment Operated

1. Job-related equipment and tools including, but not limited to, broom, mop, mop bucket, cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.
2. Automobile and/or truck with two-way radio.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Knowledge of city personnel rules and regulations and departmental policies.
2. Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the maintenance of and upkeep of park facilities and grounds.
3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
4. Ability to use the necessary tools and equipment in performance of the required duties.
5. Ability to drive and operate assigned city vehicle(s).
6. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
7. Ability to understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
8. Ability to establish, communicate and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, city employees, and the general public.
9. Ability to get in and out of city vehicle multiple times during shift.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

1. Employee will work both indoors and outdoors and will sit, stand, stoop, walk, lift light and heavy objects (more than 25 pounds).
2. Employee will be exposed to electrical currents, environmental hazards, extreme temperatures, and limited lighting conditions.
3. Employee will perform manual labor for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. with some experience in maintenance and repair work; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities.

Required Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Tennessee. Must pass a physical examination based on the essential functions of the job given by the City’s designated physician.
