Job summary

Metea Park, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is hiring a part-time Naturalist for the Parks & Recre­ation Department. The position covers 24 hours per week with shifts that vary and includes nights, weekends and holidays, at a rate of $14.00 per hour.

Duties include planning and presenting interpretive programs, training volunteers, preparing reports, and assisting with resource management and building maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
• Experience or training in parks and recreation, natural resources, environmental education or interpretation.
• Ability to locate, identify and document wildlife and plants, instruct visitors, develop media presentations and marketing materials.
• Ability to express thoughts verbally and in writing.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plan and present interpretive and outdoor recreation programs for all ages dealing with natural and cultural history subjects. Publicize these programs and interact with media representatives. Create exhibits on various subjects.
• Train and supervise volunteers
• Prepare reports and forms.
• Assist with resource management activities, including prescribed burning and exotic plant control, maintaining equipment, and safely operating equipment.
• Communicate and enforce park rules and regulations.
• Assist with school groups as needed.
• Assist with building maintenance and cleaning.
• Other duties as assigned.
