Job description

POSITION: Oral Surgeon
SCHEDULE: Part Time, 10 hours per week
LOCATION: Concord, NH

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Oral Surgeon performs surgeries on patients requiring specialist orofacial procedures. Responsibilities include consulting with patients, discussing treatment options, treating patients, overseeing aftercare, and coordinating with other specialists as necessary.

JOB RELATIONS

Supervision received: Director of Medical & Forensic Services, Chief Medical Officer

Supervision exercised: None

Relationships: All healthcare unit staff, patients, security staff, administrative/support staff, consulting physicians and dentists, regional team members, and corporate staff as necessary.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Consults with patients and analyzes data to determine needs and treatment goals.
  2. Collaborates with specialists such as restorative dentists and orthodontists for treatment planning.
  3. Maintains detailed notes of patient care, including comments, tests, treatments, and results.
  4. Administers general and local anesthetics as needed.
  5. Performs surgical procedures like tooth extractions, dental implants, and removal of tumors or abnormal growths.
  6. Prescribes medications to aid recovery and control pain.
  7. Treats infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaw, face, and neck.
  8. Provides urgent/emergent treatment for orofacial injuries.
  9. Supports patients in long-term care.
  10. Conducts research on oral and facial disorders.

Performs other related duties as required or instructed after training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and possibly lifting or moving persons or equipment. Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility for extended periods. Vision abilities include close, distant, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Clear oral and written communication skills are essential.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Office: Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, involving daily interaction with inmates, staff, and healthcare personnel. Temperature extremes may be encountered indoors and outdoors.

Travel

Moderate travel required.

Job Requirements:

Licensing: Current NH License to practice as an Oral Surgeon, NH Controlled Substance license, and DEA registration.

Certification: Current CPR certification.

Education: DMD or DDS degree.

Preferred experience: 5 years in clinical oral surgery, preferably in an institutional or correctional setting.
