Job summary

Lake Metroparks is seeking an Operations Maintenance Technician for Outdoor Connections at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center in Kirtland, OH. This part-time role supports buildings and grounds, custodial tasks, landscaping, and snow and ice control throughout the year.

You will perform basic repairs, woodworking, painting, and operate various equipment; travel between parks; flexibility with weekends, evenings, and holidays; must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of building & grounds maintenance experience.
• 1-2 years operating landscape equipment (mowers, snowplows, tractors, skid steers).
• Basic skills in construction, painting, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between parks.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily custodial and janitorial tasks across park facilities.
• Maintains landscaping, mowing, snow/ice control, and general grounds upkeep.
• Performs basic repairs to buildings and grounds-related systems.
• Completes special projects including woodworking, construction and painting.
• Operates and maintains equipment in good working order.
• Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Job description

Operations Maintenance Technician – Outdoor Connections - Part-time

Rate: $15.00/hour – starting rate based on prior experience and education

Location: Penitentiary Glen Nature Center, Kirtland, OH 44094

Under direction of the Penitentiary Glen Buildings and Grounds Manager, the Operations Maintenance Technician performs buildings and grounds maintenance at various Lake Metroparks parks and facilities including the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center, Penitentiary Glen Nature Center, Children’s Schoolhouse Nature Park and the Nature Play space.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performs daily custodial and janitorial tasks to park buildings, facilities, and amenities including cleaning restrooms; ensuring restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies; emptying trash/recycling.
• Performs mowing, general landscaping, and landscape maintenance throughout the year and snow and ice control in winter by means of snow plowing or other means of mechanical removal, shoveling and/or treatment.
• Preforms troubleshooting, basic repairs and maintenance to buildings and grounds-related amenities including plumbing and electrical systems.
• Performs special projects including woodworking, construction and painting.
• Operates and maintains all types of equipment in good working order.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience and knowledge of building & grounds maintenance, janitorial, landscaping and mechanical techniques and skills.
• 1-2 years of experience operating trucks, trailers, and equipment associated with landscape maintenance, such as mowers, snowplows, tractors, and skid steers.

Position Requirements:

• Ability to write and speak in a clear and concise manner.
• Skilled in customer service and interpersonal communication with the ability to interact professionally with all types of people.
• Ability to productively work with limited supervision and must be self-directed.
• Ability to follow directions and set priorities.
• Ability to perform physical labor and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Variable work schedule, up to 28 hours per week.
• Required to work flexible hours, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Required to frequently travel to area parks and other locations.
• Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Background check required.
