Job Description

Waldron Elementary is seeking a part‑time nurse.

180 Days per Year. Monday‑Friday 3 to 4 hours per day. PRN, Part‑time.

Certifications: Current Indiana LPN/RN License, CPR, First Aid certifications.

Qualifications

The Part‑time School nurse provides nursing services, leadership, and consultation within the school health program.

Health Functions
  • Prevention: creating a safe and healthy school environment through a continuous health program for all students; employing principles of learning and appropriate teaching in the delivery of health education; and acting as a resource to students, families, staff, and the community regarding health services, health education and a healthy environment.
  • Assessment: maintaining a continuous health program for all students through implementing and monitoring health services in accordance with laws, regulations and standards of practice; and using the nursing process to collect, interpret, and record information about the health, developmental and educational status of students to determine a nursing diagnosis and develop health care plans.
  • Intervention: implementing and monitoring a system for the provision of health services and emergency care; providing individual and group counseling to students and staff in health related matters; and communicating with parents and collaborating with others to facilitate the continuity of services and care.
  • Referral: utilizing appropriate health care personnel and health care resources to meet individual student needs; evaluating student and family responses to nursing actions and referrals; and coordinating health services with families, other school programs, in‑school professionals, school‑based resources and community‑based resources.
Responsibilities
  1. The school nurse provides nursing services (daily health care and emergency first aid), leadership and consultation within the school health program so that school children of the corporation, their families and the community as a whole will be assisted towards obtaining their maximum health potential.
  2. The school nurse shall follow school policy in maintaining a healthy environment. This includes identifying children with specific health needs (psychological, physiological or sociological) and performing the necessary steps and follow up to correct the situation.
  3. The school nurse establishes and maintains continuity of care between staff, students and families in respect to health education and problems. This includes notifying parents of health problems like lice and providing a student health list (heart murmur, diabetes) to the staff.
  4. The school nurse serves as a resource person to the staff, students and families as the need arises.
