VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking a Part Time Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant to cover Upper Peninsula sites in Michigan. The role focuses on ambulatory care in a correctional setting, with travel between sites and expense reimbursement per guidelines.

The NP/PA will work under a physician and collaborate with healthcare and security staff. The candidate must have completed an accredited NP/PA program and hold current licensure in Michigan.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment.
• Correctional experience desired but not required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under physician supervision.
• Implements medical care using approved regimens.
• Provides education to inmates/patients and staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in drills.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to infection control practices.
• Attends required trainings and meetings.

Nurse Practitioner responsible for covering the Upper Peninsula sites 2 days/week. Employee will be compensated for travel expenses while working shifts following guidelines discussed in the employee handbood. The areas included in coverage include: Freeland, Newberry, Baraga, Marquette, Kincheloe & Munising.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician’s Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
