Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking a Part Time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide ambulatory care in correctional facilities across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Coverage is two days per week with travel expenses reimbursed per policy.

The role requires Michigan licensure, a NP/PA graduate credential, and a collaborative relationship with supervising physicians. Travel to sites such as Marquette, Newberry, Baraga, and Kinross may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited NP/PA program.
• Must hold current state licensure or certification in Michigan.
• Experience in correctional settings is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide ambulatory care in a correctional setting under physician supervision.
• Cover Upper Peninsula sites 2 days per week; manage acute and chronic conditions.
• Maintain documentation and adhere to safety, privacy, and security policies.

Nurse Practitioner responsible for covering the Upper Peninsula sites 2 days/week. Employee will be compensated for travel expenses while working shifts following guidelines discussed in the employee handbood. The areas included in coverage include: Freeland, Newberry, Baraga, Marquette, Kincheloe & Munising.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician's Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.Documents all healthcare contacts.Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA programMust possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employmentExperience in Correctional desired but not requiredMaintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
