Overview
Newborn Hearing Screening Technician PT is a part‑time position focused on identifying infants with hearing loss at birth and ensuring they receive timely care. The job is performed in a busy Newborn Nursery/NICU hospital setting.
Location: Christus St. Vincent in Santa Fe, NM.
Schedule: Rotating weekday and weekend shifts, beginning at 8 AM. Shifts average 2 hours, totaling approximately 2–6 hours per week.
Pay: $17.50/hour plus a $1.00/hour weekend differential.
Responsibilities
- Conduct newborn hearing screenings in well‑baby and NICU units prior to discharge.
- Coordinate post‑discharge follow‑up care as needed using appropriate procedures and technology.
- Communicate the importance of hearing screening and early identification to nursing staff, patients, and parents.
- Analyze and resolve problem situations in a manner consistent with company and client needs.
- Maintain and use screening equipment, assist with database management.
- Interact with hospital departments, performing duties per HSA, hospital, and departmental policies.
- Uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies.
- After HSA/Hospital training, demonstrate thorough knowledge of Transient Otoacoustic Emissions and/or Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response technology.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One (1) or more years of healthcare or childcare training/experience, or related college curriculum, is a plus.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to function independently in a high‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to attend all company‑provided training.
- Willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing‑screening equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and stand for the entire shift (2–6 hours).
- Ability to push and pull a screening cart.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Employment Is Contingent Upon The Following
- Clear 7‑year background check including criminal history and education verification.
- Verifiable prior employment with title and dates of hire.
- Pass drug test and background check with favorable results.
- Bloodwork to verify immunization titers.
- Provide vaccination record upon hire and willingness to receive updated vaccinations, including COVID and flu, as required by hospital location.
