Job summary

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty to provide high-quality instruction and student support in alignment with its equity, student success, and academic excellence mission.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any district college, offering flexible opportunities to contribute to diverse learners and collaborate with campus teams.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music, or a BA in music with a Master’s in humanities, or the equivalent.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for diverse student backgrounds.
  • Ability to align with district policies and equivalency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable manner and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Submit grades and other required reports by established deadlines.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Utilize the District's learning management system and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
  • Comply with District policies, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, and other college activities as appropriate for part-time faculty.

Class Purpose

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-TimeFaculty members to provide high-quality instruction and studentsupport in accordance with the District's mission of advancingequity, student success, and academic excellence. Part-time facultyare responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction thatpromotes student learning and achievement while supporting thediverse educational goals of the District's students.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day,evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of theDistrict's colleges.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved courseoutlines and student learning outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Master’s degree in music OR
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in music AND aMaster’s degree in humanities OR
  • the equivalent
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnicbackgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff andcommunity.
Supplemental Information

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Applicantsare required to demonstrate that they meet the minimumqualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts andproviding a complete and detailed record of relevant professionalwork experience in their application materials.

The District will review education and work history to determinewhether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made inaccordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures. Official transcripts and additional verification of employment will be required upon offer of employment.

If experience is required in lieu of a master’sdegree:

For disciplines requiring a degree and professional experience, applicants must clearly describe how their education and workexperience meet the stated minimum qualifications.

Equivalency

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly mayapply for equivalency. Equivalency determinations are made througha separate review process in accordance with Districtprocedures.

The Equivalency Committee will consider only those applicants who formally request equivalency consideration by submitting the Completed Equivalency Request Form. The form should be submitted to mchandra@peralta.edu before the application close date. Be sure to attach detailed evidence, such as unofficialtranscripts and/or other certifications that support theequivalency.

Offer of employment to the persons selected for these positions is contingent upon: 1) submission of a current TB test clearance; 2) proof of eligibility to work in the United States; 3) fingerprint clearance; and 4) submission of official transcripts indicating appropriate degree(s) awarded or submission of a valid appropriate California Community College credential. 5) receipt of workverification required to meet minimum qualifications (ifapplicable).
