Job Description

The Medical Assistant performs patient care under the physician’s/nurse’s supervision. Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, administering tests, recording diagnostic results, and entering information into medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness, meeting medical coding standards. The role also involves coordinating care to meet patient needs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate and implement patient care plans; document visit reasons and patient information for review.
  • Enter and document patient visit information into electronic or written medical records.
  • Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures, including specialized tests such as audiometry and vision testing, documenting findings appropriately.
  • Assist in specimen collection, label, and route specimens according to protocols, ensuring infection control standards.
  • Conduct daily calibration and controls of laboratory equipment, reporting inaccuracies to supervisors.
  • Perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy as per provider orders, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with procedures like lumbar punctures and pelvic exams, following all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in examination rooms, stock supplies, and ensure all logs and equipment checks are completed.
  • Participate in pre-visit chart preparation, ensuring all necessary documentation is available.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, insurance processing, financial record keeping, photocopying, and managing patient flow.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, considering all responsibilities as essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a 6-month to 1-year Medical Assisting program from an approved school required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-9 coding required.
Additional Details
  • Work schedule includes: Monday at Woodbury (7:30 am - 5:30 pm), Tuesday at Lynbrook (8 am - 11 am) and Merrick (12 pm - 5 pm), Wednesday at GC (8 am - 12 pm), Thursday at Smithtown (7 am - 5:30 pm).
