Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Has the ability to recognize and cut all varieties of fresh beef, pork, chicken, veal, and lamb. Handles food safely and maintains department neatness. Responsibilities include grinding, slicing, tenderizing meat, rotating stock, stocking cases, and placing products in coolers and freezers.

Experience or Training Required

Passing a company-provided block test.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting care, concern, and patience, and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Greet customers with a smile, whether in the department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions or requests.
  • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant environment.
  • Ensure proper stocking of meat/poultry cases, coolers, and freezers by rotating and replenishing products.
  • Cut and trim fresh meat, weigh, date, label, and wrap it.
  • Slice hams and other boneless, smoked items.
  • Tenderize beef or pork using cuber machine.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
Skills and Abilities
  • Work in refrigerated and frozen environments for prolonged periods.
  • Operate power saws, box cutters, meat knives, cubers, slicers, wrappers, and cleaning equipment safely.
  • Follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
  • Perform basic math and record-keeping tasks.
  • Understand and follow instructions, request supplies orally or in writing.
  • Meet visual requirements, including color vision and depth perception.
  • Work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exercise good judgment, especially when supervision is not immediately available.
