Job summary

Parma High School in Parma, Idaho seeks an Assistant Marching Band Director to lead after-school band activities, promote student participation, and support the band and choir programs. This role reports to the Band Director and Athletics and Activities Director and requires a strong knowledge of school musical programs.

You will plan practices, supervise events, coordinate with coaches and community members, ensure safety and equipment security, and contribute to yearly program evaluation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• Demonstrated knowledge of school musical programs
• Related experience as determined by the Board
• Ability to foster and sustain students' interest in band and promote skill development
• Possess good organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work harmoniously with students, parents, and colleagues
• Maintain confidentiality of staff and students

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise a series of regularly-scheduled activities, such as practices, after school hours
• Attend all band meetings and in-school events, supervise field trips and other out-of-school functions
• Attend out-of-school meetings, supervise fundraisers, and help students prepare for competitions
• Ensure the safety of the students and maintain responsibility for the security of equipment and facilities
• Actively promote the band programs and seek student participation
• Model positive behavior and maintain a supportive environment
• Work with coaches, parents, news reporters and community members
• Assist the director to coordinate the use of facilities such as the auditorium and gym for rehearsals and concerts
• Assist other district music personnel
• Perform and coordinate work with elementary and high school programs
• Evaluate the band/choir program annually and make recommendations for improvements as necessary
• Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
• Seek assistance should emergencies arise
• Represent the school district in a positive manner
• Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
• Perform other duties as assigned
