Part-Time Maintenance Worker - St Peter Damian Parish - Bartlett - Vic IV

The maintenance workers role aids in ensuring the functioning of building systems including the fire/life safety, HVAC, lighting, mechanical and plumbing systems in all the parish facilities. The maintenance worker is also responsible for ensuring the grounds are kept in a safe and clean condition. This would include overseeing the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, light snow removal and performing repairs to buildings and equipment as required, utilizing basic knowledge in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, masonry and painting work.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for security of parish grounds, contacting the Pastor, Office Manager, Maintenance Manager, and local police department when needed as a result of damage and vandalism to grounds.
• Perform maintenance service and small repairs in the areas of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, masonry and painting.
• Perform general labor and tasks such as sweeping, emptying waste baskets, trash removal, and cleaning with strong attention to detail. This includes areas that many need to be cleaned daily, weekly, and monthly.
• With approval of office manager, supervise work with outside contractors for routine preventative activities such as safety inspections, pest control, and other preventative maintenance on facility systems.
• Maintain a routine schedule for carpet cleaning and waxing of floors.
• Replace batteries in smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors and cameras. Replace light bulbs as
  necessary.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and any other appropriate meetings.
• Maintain accurate inventory on parish needed items such as paper products, host, wine, candles, and any other important items.
• Work with Office Manager on securing multiple bids from vendors for services and repairs.
• Ensure parish machinery is well maintained and that maintenance procedures are followed. Prepare a
  maintenance budget to be submitted to the Finance Council, including regular supplies, renewable contracts, necessary repairs, and preventative maintenance.
• Perform snow removal of sidewalks during the winter season. Schedule and communicate with contractors to assist with this task.
• Clean gutters as needed.
• Set up and clean up for Funerals, Baptisms, and other special events as needed.
• Inspect all spaces used after groups and clean space as needed.
• Move mobile walls in the church balcony and Hardy Halls as needed.
• Clean carpet, floors, pews, and altar area after Sunday Mases.
• Clean the chapel carpet, floors, pews and altar area at a minimum of once a week or as needed.
• Assist with putting up and taking down seasonal decorations.
• Maintain fire inspector expectations and implement recommendations. Meet yearly with fire inspector for inspection.
• Meet with village representatives for yearly inspection.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor and Office Manager.
• Work in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.

Requirements & Preferences

• Education Required: Working knowledge of general High School matter including basic Math and English skills.
• Education Preferred: High school graduate, GED or equivalent.
• Experience Required: Three years of experience in maintenance or a related area.
• Skills Required: Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures of facilities and grounds
  maintenance. Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine
  servicing, or electrical.
• Other Required: Valid Driver’s license. Lift, push, pull 50lbs. Climb ladders and stairs as necessary.
  Availability to work extra time as needed.

This position has an hourly range of $20.00- $30.00. An employee’s pay within the range is based on relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, location & business needs.
