POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join our team! This position will be based at Reedy Creek Park and will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including but not limited to grounds maintenance and landscaping within the park. The incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of our park facilities ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation. This position will work about 19 hours per week and will primarily consist of weekends with occasional weekday hours depending on business need.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Grounds maintenance experience
• Landscaping experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
• Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
• Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
• Perform general custodial work
• Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
• Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience required
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:
• Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
• Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
• Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work

Skills:
• Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers, and other assigned equipment
• Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions

• Collaboration: Working effectively and cooperatively with others
• Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas
